Truth
एकम सत विप्रा बहुधा वदन्ति
Ekam sat Vipra Bahudha Vadanti
This a Sutra (quote) from the Rigveda and the Upnishads. It literally means “Truth, or call it God, is one, the wise perceive it differently or call him by different names and differently”.
This might be the oldest pluralistic wisdom and the oldest and the first reference to secularism and democracy and free speech or free thinking. And also the oldest religious pluralism, or pluralism in ideas, or pluralism in general.
For this reason, this deep and all-era relevant idea by the ancient rishis, at least 3500 – 4000 years ago, must be appreciated and applauded.
But, taking it as the first stepping stone, I want to delve into deeper levels.
What is truth?
Ok fine, let’s agree that there is one ‘truth’, and that many people see it in different forms and ways. But what is it? What is truth itself? What is Ultimate? What is Absolute?
If you search, in other words that means google for many, for the dictionary meaning of ‘truth’ (saat), we find something like : the quality or state of being true or that which is true or in accordance with fact or reality, that which is real.
Now, what’s real?
Again if you search for meaning you get something like : that which is actually existing as a thing or occurring in fact; not imagined or supposed.
So, the question is, what is existence or experience?
Call it consciousness, awareness, experience, existence, it all concerns with the state, or call it state of being – a set/collection of information. OR you can just represent it otherwise. Whatever it is, at some level, call the foundational level or the Basis, and beyond it, there is no further layer of reason, or justification, or answer. There is nothing.
So that basis, is what the reason or justification or the foundational layer of everything that it founds, is. That basis is the truth of and with respect to all those universe of things that it founds.
Truth for any set of things is that which is common to all those things in that set. It is something that is invariably present in the ‘everywhere’ and ‘everything’ of that set/universe. It is something that is absolute within and with respect to that set. It is basically that which defines the set i.e. that which defines every element in any collection.
Now, the ultimate truth would be that which is found in absolute everything, and is Absolute absolute, not just relative ‘everything’, not just relative absolute. That is what everyone is after, because it is present everywhere, common to everything and is not relative, and pervades everything, is existent in everything, i.e. is permanent, is immortal.
Therefore, truth and Absolute-truth is about Absolute Immortality, and absolute existence throughout existence. Truth is that which is permanent throughout all existence, and is permanently existent throughout all of existenceverse.
Now, what is such that is common to all and to everything? For that we must know what everything is, and we must know each and every thing/existence, which is impossible because, for that we must know all the infinite existence/state.
The other point is, any particular state can only know or realize itself, and not the other state. Any particular state is present or existent with respect to itself, and not with respect to the other state. So, any state for itself is the infinite existence, and the only existence. Existence is relative. Infinity is relative. Non-existence is relative. So for any state it is the truth, the absolute truth.
Now, any thing wants not just infinite existence in that sense, but in the sense that it is absolutely existent throughout the existenceverse. This, though impossible, gives rise relation, which in turn gives rise to laws, dynamics, Physics, and everything/every relation.
For any state, any other state is not that state, or the ‘Not-state’ of that state. Every state has the ‘Not-state’. This is why, nothing can pervade all of or throughout the existenceverse.
So the answer to the unanswered question, unanswered even by the Vedas, though the mention of one-truth known in many ways, is Nothing. The truth or the one- absolute-truth that was mentioned, is no where to be found. In other words that truth is Nothing. So, Nothing is the Absolute. There is nothing that is common/essential/fundamental/the basis and existent throughout existence, i.e. Nothing is that which is common/essential/fundamental/the basis and existent throughout existence. The Brahman, the all-pervading (i.e. Vishnu) is Nothing.
There is no such thing as truth, or absolute truth. The absence of the description or the no-description of Brahman or the Absolute truth, despite the mention that there being one, is the evidence of that. The fact, and also the realization and mention by Vedas, that there are many forms or ways or ideas or beliefs, is also what favors this and what supports this, and points towards.
Truth is relative.
Also, when we look beyond the foundation or the basis or the foundational layer of anything, there is Nothing. Nothing is the Basis, the reason, the justification, even of any basis or of any foundational layer. Nothing is the Ultimate Basis, and ‘NOTHING‘ is the Absolute Truth i.e. the Absolute.
